Nibbles and Bits

October 14, 1998

The Equators, one of the first bands on the late-'70s English scene to rekindle interest in Jamaican ska rhythms, play a free show today at noon at Cal State Fullerton's Becker Amphitheater. (714) 278-3503. Tazy Phyllipz, co-host of "The Ska Parade" weekly radio show on KUCI-FM (88.9), is producing the Equators' first album in 17 years, for which Phyllipz is pairing the original singers--brothers Donald, Leo and Rocky Bailey--with musicians formerly in the Donkey Show, a band from the '80s Southern California ska scene. The Equators also perform Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Barn at UC Riverside. (909) 715-2252.
