2 Men Convicted of Robbing Bank Twice

October 15, 1998

Two men accused of robbing a Duarte bank twice in two months were convicted Wednesday by a federal court jury.

Jeffrey James Dennis, 41, of Inglewood and Darren Kevin Hunter, 33, of Los Angeles each face 44 to 52 years in prison when they are sentenced in January.

The pair held up a Bank of America branch on East Huntington Drive in Duarte on April 10 and fled with about $13,000 in cash.

They returned to the same branch May 8 with a female accomplice and committed another robbery, escaping with more than $9,100. But this time a witness alerted police as the bandits fled in a yellow Cadillac.

A high-speed chase followed. It ended when the robbers crashed into another car.

Their accomplice in the second bank robbery, Brenda Ann Cotton, 37, of Los Angeles pleaded guilty last month and faces up to 14 months behind bars.
