* Last week: South Africa successfully defended its Alfred Dunhill Cup in St. Andrews, Scotland, beating Spain, 3-0, in the championship match. Retief Goosen beat Santiago Luna, 72-73, David Frost defeated Miguel Angel Jimenez, 76-78, and Els beat Jose Maria Olazabal, 75-77.

* Winner's share: $360,500.

* Last year: Bill Glasson won his seventh tour title, closing with a six-under 66 for a one-stroke victory over David Edwards and Billy Mayfair. Glasson had a 20-under 340 total.

* Last week: David Duval successfully defended his Michelob Championship title in Williamsburg, Va. He shot 65-67-68-68 for a 16-under 268. New Zealand's Phil Tataurangi finished second, three strokes back.

* Last year: Bob Eastwood finished with a four-under 68 for a two-stroke victory over Rick Acton. Eastwood had a 12-under 204 total.

* Last week: Jim Colbert won The Transamerica in Napa, his first victory since prostate cancer surgery in July 1997. He had an 11-under 205 total for a one-stroke victory over David Lundstrom.
