Doctor Punished by Medical Board

October 18, 1998|MICHAEL BAKER

A Westlake Village resident, who has practiced medicine at clinics in the San Fernando Valley, was placed on three years probation for sexual misconduct and unprofessional conduct.

The Medical Board of California earlier this month disclosed the decision against David N. Michelson, who was issued a California physician's and surgeon's certificate in June 1976.

According to charges filed with the board, Michelson engaged in sexual abuse and sexual misconduct in early 1995 when he improperly massaged the neck and shoulders of a woman patient while checking the cause of lower back pain at Advantage Care Medical Group, which formally had offices in Chatsworth and Van Nuys.

Michelson engaged again in sexual abuse and sexual misconduct in March 1996 at the Encino Urgent Care Medical Center when he kissed a woman patient on the side of her lips during an eye examination, according to the board records.

Then, in December 1996, Michelson intentionally brushed his hand against the clothed buttocks of an employee at Advantage Care Medical Group, the board records stated.

Michelson was placed on three years probation on Sept. 4. Although he is still allowed to practice during his probation, he must complete a sexual harassment course, an ethics course and have a third party present when examining female patients, among other stipulations.

Michelson could not be reached for comment.
