Church to Hold Holiday Boutique

October 24, 1998

A holiday boutique will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Oxnard's First Presbyterian Church in the fellowship hall. The public is welcome.

A Bible study and worship in Spanish are held on Friday evenings at 7 for adults and youth. Child care is available.

Church Plans Boutique, Lunch

Ventura's First Christian Church will hold its annual boutique and luncheon from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

Handcrafted items, decorations, jams, pickles, baked goods and candies will be sold. A $5 lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost for children under age 10 is $1.50.

Temple Offers Evening of Fun

Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks will hold Monte Carlo night today, with games of chance, prizes, a raffle, dinner and an auction scheduled. The $25 ticket includes dinner and $1,000 in fun money.

Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., and the casino will open at 7. Proceeds will support the temple's youth programs.

Series on Judaism, Homosexuality

Rabbi Lisa Hochberg-Miller will continue her Lifelong Learning Series at Ventura's Temple Beth Torah with a discussion titled "Judaism and Homosexuality" on Sunday. The informal class begins at 9:40 a.m. in the social hall.

The second of a three-part introduction to Judaism will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Participants will explore modern Reform perspectives on Jewish spirituality and values.

Lecture on God's Love in Life

Mark Swinney, former managing editor of the Christian Science weekly, will discuss "God's Love in Your Life" at a free Christian Science lecture in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza forum theater at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Civic Arts Plaza is at 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Parking is free, and the public is welcome. Child care will be provided at the nearby First Church of Christ, Scientist, at 305 Conejo School Road.

New Series of Evening Classes

The Conejo Valley Consortium for Adult Jewish Education is offering a new series of evening classes in Thousand Oaks and Agoura Hills.

"Jewish Home Depot" with Rabbi Nina Feinstein begins Tuesday at Temple Beth Haverim at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, "Eco-Kosher and Feng Shui" combines Chinese environmental science and Jewish sensibilities at Temple Etz Chaim.

At Temple Adat Elohim in Thousand Oaks, "Carnal Israel: Gender, Love and Marriage in Ancient Israel" will be held weekly at 7:30 p.m. beginning Thursday.

Class fees range from $10 to $45.

Forum on SOAR Measures

Ventura's College United Methodist Church will hold a public nonpartisan forum on SOAR measures A and B at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Visiting evangelist Kimball Coburn will present three special worship services at the church--7:30 p.m. Nov. 6, 3:30 p.m. Nov. 7 with a potluck meal to follow, and 10 a.m. Nov. 8.

Workshop to Focus on Feng Shui

The Unity Center Church of Agoura Hills will offer an introduction to Oriental feng shui principles on Friday. Feng shui is used as a guide in selecting and placing elements in a harmonious space.

The workshop, which will be led by Charlo Stuart, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Westlake Village Community Room at the City Hall and library, 4373 Park Terrace Drive, Westlake Village.

Church to Hold Fellowship Dinner

The Ventura County Council of Churches will hold its fall fellowship dinner at 6 p.m. Friday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Camarillo.

Tickets for the dinner and program are $10. Jim and Lynn Decker-Mahin will present "The King and I," a gospel message in word and song.

Registration is at 6, followed by dinner at 6:30 and the program at 7:30 p.m.
