Tooth-Whitening Product Brightens Firm's Earnings

October 27, 1998|BARBARA MURPHY

Dental/Medical Diagnostic Systems in Westlake Village, a dental equipment manufacturer, reported earnings of $669,426, or 13 cents per share, for the three months that ended Sept. 30.

Net revenues for the quarter were $6.1 million, compared with $3.5 million a year earlier. Net income for the quarter was a turnaround from the net loss of $439,575, or 9 cents per share, for the quarter that ended Sept. 30, 1997.

The increase in revenues and profitability was primarily due to shipment of the Apollo 95E in the United States after the company received Food and Drug Administration approval in August, and continued success of the product in the international marketplace.

The Apollo tooth-whitening and composite curing system, developed by Dental/Medical Diagnostic and marketed for approximately $4,500, is sold through independent representatives domestically and through distributors internationally.

"The acceptance of the Apollo 95E tooth-whitening and composite curing system in markets around the world supports our confidence that this product will be very successful," said Robert Gurevitch, chairman and chief executive officer.

Gurevitch said Apollo 95E whitens discolored teeth in less than 40 minutes and dries dental fillings in one to three seconds.
