Resale Store Offers Glamour Fashions at Drop-Dead Prices

While we see some mom and pop businesses closing, others arrive with regularity--mainly resale stores. Just a month ago, Lisa's N.Y. Style Resale opened in Sherman Oaks and already has the ambience of longevity.

The merchandise is top quality, the inventory is deep and the prices are definitely right. Owner Lisa Beth Zohar expands the usual resale merchandise to include some fine vintage pieces, such as an ornate black and gold Christian LaCroix jacket that could easily command a big figure--$4,000 to $5,000. Zohar has priced it at $1,200.

From Issey Miyake, collectors will be tempted by a long faux fur jacket with a huge collar for $1,200. Studio wardrobe heads, take note.

In the more affordable range but very much in fashion is a black faux fur suit from Giorgio Armani for $369, an amber wool dress from Ungaro for $159 and a St. John knit suit for $339. Another head-turner is a gold lame three-quarter coat with mink trim for $350.

Zohar definitely leans toward the exotic. For the lowest prices, check the sidewalk rack ($1 per garment the day we visited) and the back room for the most recent markdowns.

For those who want to add to the inventory, the consignment split here is 50%-50% and if you can't figure out what to get rid of and what to keep, Zohar provides a service to help reorganize and refurbish your closet. It's $60 for up to three hours.

Lisa's N.Y. Style Resale, 13541 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; (818) 788-2142. Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Major credit cards.

Weekend Super Sale: A sale at Happy Eyes should get the attention of those who believe that eyeglasses are an accessory and, as such, we should have more than one or two pair. To facilitate this, when you buy two pairs of single-vision glasses for $29.95 each, you get a third pair for $10. If you wear bifocals, the same deal applies--buy two pairs for $49.95 each and the third pair is $10. This also goes for sunglasses. Special extends through the weekend. Happy Eyes, 114 E. Wilson, Glendale; (818) 246-2202.
