Utah Pulls Out of Northridge Plans

October 29, 1998|STEVE HENSON | From Staff Reports

Days after extending an offer to play a home-and-home men's basketball series with Cal State Northridge beginning next season, Utah backed out.

The Utes, a perennial power, would have been the most prominent team to play at Northridge.

After agreeing on dates for the series with Utah coaches, Matador associate head coach Mike Johnson mailed off a contract. The Utes replied this week, but it wasn't the answer Northridge was expecting.

Utah will play in the Wooden Classic at UCLA next season and assistant Donny Daniels said it doesn't make sense for the Utes to make two trips to Southern California.
