Simi Valley officials are encouraging residents to begin making appointments to dispose of their household hazardous waste at the city's Hazardous Waste Round-Up scheduled for Oct. 3.

Appointments are limited to a first-call, first-serve basis and will be taken through Sept. 29 or until all slots are filled. Residents will be allowed to make more than one appointment as space provides.

The city will mail residents an admission pass, scheduled time and directions to the disposal site.

Household waste that can be taken to the round-up include paints and solvents, antifreeze, motor oil and filters, car batteries, pool chemicals, herbicides and insecticides, photographic chemicals and fluorescent light bulbs.

Waste that will not be accepted includes medical or radioactive materials, explosives, smoke alarms, gas cylinders, propane tanks and tires.

Quantities to be disposed of are limited to 15 gallons of liquid and 125 pounds of solid material.

The round-up is for residential waste only. No commercial or business waste will be accepted.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call the city's Community Services Department at 583-6321.
