Euthanasia of Dog on TV Spurs Animal Adoptions

September 04, 1998| Associated Press

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A sheriff who triggered a huge rise in animal adoptions by televising a dog being put to sleep says he's putting the issue back on local cable TV.

Animal adoptions at the Guilford County Animal Shelter have increased 300% since Sheriff B.J. Barnes showed the footage last month on his "Sheriff's Beat" program. He wanted to publicize the need for pet owners to spay and neuter their dogs and cats.
