The Anaheim Angels are in the midst of a division race, but Edison Field will be the site of perhaps the biggest prep football game in the nation on Sept. 26 if Santa Ana Mater Dei and Concord De La Salle win Friday.

Concord De La Salle extended its national-record winning streak to 77 games last week with a 48-13 victory over Nevada Union.

Mater Dei, a perennial Southern Section power, beat Clovis West, the top-ranked team in the Central Section, 21-14.

This week, De La Salle plays Bakersfield, which became the first California school to record 600 victories with a 20-0 win over Antelope Valley last Friday.

Mater Dei plays at St. John Bosco on Friday.

Fontana football Coach Dick Bruich earned his 200th victory last Friday as the Steelers defeated Moreno Valley Canyon Springs, 24-17.

Bruich, in his 22nd season, has a 200-48-2 record.

"The 200 wins say a lot about the kids in Fontana, not me," said Bruich, who guided the Steelers to Southern Section titles in 1987 and 1989. "It's a testament to the players and all of the coaches who have worked in our program."

Casey Jacobsen of Glendora, The Times' San Gabriel Valley player of the year last season in boys' basketball, has made an oral commitment to attend Stanford.

Jacobsen, a guard, averaged 33 points a game last season and led Glendora to the Southern Section Division I-A championship. He was the leading scorer for the U.S. junior national team that won the World Youth Games in Moscow this summer.

A girls' basketball game has been added to the program for the John Wooden Classic that will be played Dec. 4 at the Arrowhead Pond.

Brea Olinda, winner of the state Division II title last season, will play Chino Hills Ayala, a Southern Section semifinalist in 1997-98, at 4:30 p.m.

The girls' game will be followed by a boys' tripleheader featuring Rancho Buena Vista versus Los Alamitos, Compton Dominguez versus Waltrip (Texas) and Glendora versus Mater Dei.
