* Milpitas-based Adaptec Inc., a maker of computer connector cards and storage devices, said fiscal second-quarter results will be at the "lower end" of analysts' estimates before it takes a charge of 20 to 25 cents a share to pay for 850 job cuts made since April. It is expected to break even for the September quarter, with no earnings per share.
