Van Nuys 25, Birmingham 21--Van Nuys quarterback Bobby Hernandez completed 15 of 26 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wolves (2-0) at Birmingham.

Van Nuys claimed its second lead, 25-21, on a 15-yard pass play from Hernandez to Germaine Lucious to complete a five-play, 66-yard drive with 9:07 remaining in the game.

Birmingham was unable to convert a first down on its next two possessions and the Wolves hung on for the victory. On the final play of the game, with Birmingham at the Wolves' 46, Max Parra's pass was tipped at the line of scrimmage and fell incomplete.

Birmingham running back Howard Jones rushed for 102 yards in 12 carries and returned the opening kickoff of the second-half 95 yards to give Birmingham its only lead, 21-18.

Jose Arroyo booted a 43-yard field goal for the Wolves going on the game's opening drive.
