Small Faces

April 11, 1999

Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Bruce Hornsby and David Lindley are planning to tour together starting in late August. The five will share a backing band and be on stage together for much of the show, evoking the spirit shown often in benefit concerts they've done over the years. . . .

The annual Sizzlin' Country benefit concert for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on May 4, the night before the Academy of Country Music Awards, will feature performances by Jo Dee Messina, Bryan White, the Wilkinsons and Anita Cochran. Tickets run $300 each for the event, held on the back lot of Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank. . . .

After his Saturday concert at the Universal Amphitheatre, racing fan Jeff Beck and band member Jennifer Batten will do a duet guitar instrumental of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before next Sunday's Long Beach Grand Prix. . . .

Avant-rock guitar god Tom Verlaine is writing the scores for a series of classic avant-garde films, including works by Man Ray and Fernand Leger. Plans are for Verlaine and musical collaborator Jimmy Rip to accompany the screenings with live performances of the music. The first scheduled staging is in November in Columbus, Ohio, and organizers are currently looking for an L.A. venue.
