* Re "Praise, Protest Greet Chinese Premier," April 7: Sycophant: (n.) "a servile flatterer of important persons;" see also Mayor Richard Riordan. And what a missed opportunity for Los Angeles first lady and child advocate Nancy Daly Riordan. If she only had the courage to politely ask the premier why he felt compelled to keep the 9-year-old Panchen Lama incarcerated since the age of 4, she might have saved a life. At least the trade dollars will console them.
