April 13, 1999|Bloomberg News

Broadcast.com Inc., a provider of online multimedia events that's being acquired by Yahoo Inc., said its loss from operations widened to $3.4 million, or 9 cents a share, from a pro forma loss of $2.64 million, or 9 cents, a year earlier. Analysts were expecting a steeper loss of 12 cents, according to the average estimate of analysts surveyed by First Call Corp. Revenue more than doubled to $10.3 million, from $4.5 million.

Semiconductor equipment maker Novellus Systems Inc. said its profit tumbled 55% in the first-quarter to $9.43 billion, or 25 cents a share, as sales slid 29% to $115.2 million. Novellus said it took in more orders in the first quarter than it shipped, an indicator that future sales are likely to rise.
