Alemany def. Notre Dame, 17-15, 15-11, 15-6--UCLA-bound Richard Nelson did not play, but Darrin Phillips and Joe Chavez each had 14 kills for the Indians (7-3, 5-2), ranked No. 5 in the region by The Times, in a Mission League victory at Notre Dame.

Nelson, a setter and outside hitter, is expected to miss three weeks because of a broken little finger he sustained while blocking a ball Tuesday against Chaminade.

Granada Hills def. Kennedy, 10-15, 15-8, 15-6, 15-9--Mike Aleman and Derek Saenz each had 17 kills and Chris Martin added 16 for the eighth-ranked Highlanders (9-1, 6-1), who will face Taft on Wednesday for first place in the Northwest Valley Conference.

Quartz Hill def. Lancaster, 15-5, 15-9, 15-2--Brandan Butchart had 11 kills for the Rebels (10-1, 3-1), ranked No. 3, in a Golden League victory at Lancaster.

Highland def. Antelope Valley, 15-0, 15-1, 15-2--Mike Thomas had seven aces and the No. 4-ranked Bulldogs (8-0, 4-0) won a Golden League match at Highland.

Thousand Oaks def. Westlake, 15-2, 15-6, 15-10--Shane Judd had 15 kills and the No. 9-ranked Lancers (8-2, 6-1) won a Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks.


Cleveland 73, Kennedy 57--Andre McIntosh won the 100 meters in 10.6 seconds and the 200 in 22.2 for the Cavalier boys (3-2, 3-2) in a North Valley League victory at Cleveland.

Taft 96, Chatsworth 30--Chris Morgan won the 100 in 11.4, the 110 high hurdles in 15.0, the long jump in 21-4 and ran on the winning 440 relay team for the Toreador boys in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at Taft.

Taft 93, Chatsworth 31--Deneeka Torrey ran a 12.5 in the 100 and Erin Reed ran 25.6 in the 200 for the Toreador girls in a Northwest Valley Conference victory at Taft.
