She's Got the Look . . . but Whose?

April 18, 1999|ALISA VALDES-RODRIGUEZ

Though Shakira has been labeled by many in the English media as "the Latina Alanis Morissette" because of similarities in sound, the feeling in the Shakira camp is that the imitation actually might be the other way around. This theory was buoyed when Morissette appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone looking an awful lot like the Shakira album cover that had been released two months before, down to the dirt smeared across her skin, the threads woven into her hair and the heavy eye makeup. Research done by People En Espanol magazine revealed that the Canadian rocker had sought the services of the same hairdresser Shakira had, and Shakira had been first.
