NATO Bombing

April 25, 1999

* Evidence mounts daily that NATO airstrikes in Kosovo are ineffective and are not only causing suffering and death but irreparable damage to the infrastructure and to the environment. This is not humanitarian relief, and to prolong the airstrikes or to send in ground troops will be counterproductive.

Milosevic will not be stopped by bombs. It is time to end the airstrikes and to call on the United Nations to work toward a negotiated peace.

* Re "Oil Blockade Option Rejected by France, Italy, Greece," April 20: So France, Italy and Greece are opposed to a blockade because of "legalities," while they join us in bombing people. Our government is ineffective to deal with oil companies, while we spend billions of dollars trying to kill people.

So oil is more important than blood! Are these really our values? Our "family values"? I am outraged!

* Why is it OK with the Republicans to bomb and send troops to the Middle East to save oil but not to Kosovo to save lives?
