Continuing efforts to place tighter controls on adult entertainment businesses, the City Council's Planning and Land Use Committee decided Tuesday to require that adult cabarets meet conditional-use permit requirements.

The committee directed the drafting of ordinances to regulate standards of behavior within the clubs, possibly including a requirement that performers be licensed to ensure that they are of legal age.

Citing businesses and organizations such as churches that require conditional-use permits, committee chairman Hal Bernson commented, "Why should adult entertainment be more protected?"
