Starr Makes the Grade

Tackle R.J. Starr of U.C. Davis, a senior from Thousand Oaks, was selected a second team GTE Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Starr has a 3.61 grade-point average in managerial economics.

SOCCER

* Forward Alix Rucisnki of Cal Lutheran, from Camarillo, was the only freshman selected to the NCAA Division III All-American women's team by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America.

Also selected to the team was midfielder Janine Harispe of UC San Diego, a senior from La Canada.

BASKETBALL

* Sophomore swingman Tellys Knight of Oxnard College has signed with San Jose State.

* The men's team at College of the Canyons is sponsoring a toy drive, and all spectators donating an unwrapped toy Saturday will be admitted free to the 7 p.m. game against Moorpark.
