* A recent American Assn. of University Women report documents how girls 11 to 17 share concerns about issues such as sexual harassment and pregnancy.
Girls frequently cite incidents of boys as young as 12 or 13 calling them names or making crude requests for sex.
Many girls want to end the gender bias that they face in schools and propose that anti-violence and anti-sexual harassment programs begin early. Some members of Congress reportedly want to end programs such as the Women's Educational Equity Act, which is the only federal program designed to assist schools in achieving educational equity for girls. I also urge Congress to enact the Educating America's Girls ACT (HR 2505/S1264) which would, among things, provide training for teachers and administrators.
