Bosnian Serb Found Guilty of Genocide

December 16, 1999|From Times Wire Reports

A judge in Munich, Germany, convicted a Bosnian Serb of genocide and murder and sentenced him to life in prison for ordering the shooting deaths of six Bosnian Muslims. Djurdard Kusljic, 44, was acting as the police chief in the Bosnian town of Vrbanjci when he ordered the killings in June 1992, in the early months of Bosnia-Herzegovina's 3 1/2-year war, the court said. Presiding Judge Raimund Kraemer said Kusljic acted out of conviction when he took part in systematic "ethnic cleansing" of Muslims.
