Fanciful 'Cradle'

December 19, 1999

After reading John Clark's article on Tim Robbins' latest film, "Cradle Will Rock" ("Back to the Cradle of Conflict," Dec. 5), I am convinced a more apt title for the film should be "A Lot of Things That Happened in the 1930s When 'Cradle Will Rock' Was Produced."

I had the honor of performing in "The Cradle Will Rock" with Dick Shawn at Brandeis University in 1976. That production was directed by Howard Bay, the great scenic designer, and a member of the original "Cradle Will Rock" production team.

The real shame with Robbins' film is that, like Oliver Stone's "JFK," it distorts history.
