December 25, 1999|Associated Press

SALT LAKE CITY — A Delta Airlines passenger jet lost a tire while taking off Friday from Salt Lake City International Airport. It circled the airport for about an hour to burn off fuel, then landed safely.

None of the Detroit-bound plane's 127 travelers or five crew members was injured.

Delta spokeswoman Kimberly King said the Boeing 737-300 lost one of its two right landing gear tires.

The plane was airborne for an hour to burn fuel, said Al Stuart, airport operations superintendent.
