Malcolm-Jamal Warner emceed the I Have a Dream Foundation's fund-raising "Gospel Brunch" on Jan. 17, honoring the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., at University CityWalk's B.B. King's Blues Club & Restaurant. More than 400 people attended the event, including Jennifer Beals, Grant Show, Lionel Cole, L.A. Deputy Mayor Rocky Delgadillo, Lorraine Toussaint, state Sen. Diane Watson (D-Los Angeles) and Scott Wolf. The more than $20,000 raised will benefit the students and programs of the foundation, which grants at-risk children college scholarships when they graduate from high school.
* The National Football League, along with KKBT-FM the Beat (92.3) and KJLH-FM (102.3), raised more than $25,000 at the NFL / Youth Education Town Pre-Super Bowl Party fund-raiser Jan. 15 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Los Angeles. More than 200 people attended the evening, which included casino-style gaming tables, bid whist and dominoes. Founded in 1993 by the NFL, Garth Brooks and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, the NFL / Youth Education Town is a high-tech education and recreation center in Compton, offering academic, athletic, job training and community service programs to youths.
