The days of smudged fingerprints, messy ink pads and ancient filing systems to keep track of suspects are gone. Starting today, the Police Department is going high-tech with a $40,000 scanner, similar to grocery store scanners, to take fingerprints of suspects. The new technology is part of a countywide effort to update police and sheriff's crime-fighting equipment. The scanners were paid for out of a state vehicle license plate fee fund.
