SMALL BUSINESS

Sessions to Focus on Financing

July 21, 1999

How to get financing will be a focus of the Los Angeles Times Small Business Strategies Conference on Sept. 24-25.

Six financing sessions will include information on:

* Little-known money sources such as tax credits, tax breaks, incentives, special government funds and empowerment zones.

* Guerrilla financing for early-stage capital such as savings, assets, lines of credit, micro-loans and early-stage angels.

* Tips on how to avoid being killed by growth and how to recognize when it's time for outside help or a bigger line of credit.

* How to get venture capital, how to take your company public and how to package your business for a lender.

Some of these sessions will be workshops with step-by-step instruction, while others will be led by venture capital financiers who will provide tips for growth.

More than 10,000 small-business owners are expected to attend the conference. It is designed to aid growing businesses, with 56 instructional and interactive workshops, networking sessions, an exhibit hall and one-on-one business advice from consultants.

In addition, tips for growth will be given by entrepreneurs and consultants from six growing regional industries: biomedical/bioscience, business consulting, manufacturing, Tech Coast, exporting and retail.

Registration begins Aug. 4. To get a conference brochure, call (800) 350-3211 or go to http://www.latimes.com/sbsc.
