SANTA MONICA — Authorities have arrested a fugitive sought in connection with the slaying of a 14-year-old girl, whose death has been linked to a satanic cult.
Dennis Ronald Scott, 24, was picked up Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala., when detectives saw him at a popular hangout, the Five Points South fountain.
Scott is charged in the 1998 strangulation of Shevawn Geoghegan in Santa Monica. Authorities said the slaying had ties to satanic cult activity. Geoghegan's body was found Feb. 26, 1998, in a deserted mental health clinic.
California authorities had been searching for Scott since then.
Two anonymous callers said he was in Birmingham and police believe Scott was able to elude capture for so long by using an assumed name.
