Inspectors expect to begin identifying code violations in the La Colonia neighborhood in early August as part of the city's Neighborhood Improvement and Community Enhancement program, housing coordinator Chris Corbin announced last week. Corbin said inspectors will notify residents with code violations and fine those who do not make the required improvements within 30 days. The city has loans and grant programs for low- and middle-income families who cannot afford to make the changes, he said. Code violations include everything that inspectors can spot from the sidewalk, including broken-down cars and excess trash, he said. "Anything that's in public view can be cited," Corbin said.
