Despite objections from residents living near Liberty Park, the City Council unanimously chose it as the site for a proposed skate park at its meeting Tuesday.

One resident who had collected 52 signatures from residents spoke against building it at the park. But council members followed the recommendation of Michael Turro of the Community Services Commission, which studied numerous city-owned spaces and found the park between Monroe and Westminster Boulevard to be the most suitable site. Turro said the site was chosen in part because of its proximity to the Police Department, making the skate park easier to patrol.
