High School Baseball / Southern Section Championships

Newhall Hart 10, Santa Maria Righetti 9--The Indians held off a seventh-inning rally by Righetti and won the Division II championship at Edison Field.

With Hart leading, 10-7, pitcher Jamie Shields (11-0) gave up a two-run home run to Aaron McKenzie, but retired the next three batters to give Coach Bud Murray a victory in his final game. Murray is retiring after 22 years at Hart.

Brandon Montemayor's run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning provided second-seeded Hart (27-4) with a 10-7 lead.

Catcher Eric Verbryke had a double and a home run for unseeded Righetti (24-7).
