Despite some losses at the high-school level, Los Alamitos students once again racked up strong Stanford 9 test scores this year, with most districtwide marks ranging in the 60th and 70th percentiles. That's above the national average, which is the 50th percentile by definition. Los Alamitos scores mainly improved in the elementary and middle school grades, where students are tested on reading, math, written expression and spelling. Districtwide, high school students--who swap spelling for science and social science questions--slipped somewhat, but still stayed close to, or above, the national average. The following percentile listings show how scores ranked, on average, against a nationally selected group. A score in the 99th percentile, for example, is equal to or higher than all but 1% of the comparison group's.
