Canyon def. Valencia, 15-4, 15-7, 15-8--Gideon Gibson had nine kills and the Cowboys (9-3, 7-0) won a Foothill League match at Canyon.

Royal def. University, 15-3, 15-6; def. Crescenta Valley, 15-6, 15-9; def. Calvary Chapel, 15-4, 15-7--Ryan Moberly had 20 kills, Bryan Rubenstein had 17 kills and 10 blocks, and Matt Janosek had 56 assists on the day for the Highlanders (17-0) in pool play of the Redondo tournament.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

New Mexico 14, CS Northridge 4--A four-run third inning, highlighted by Lon Yamaguchi's steal of home, gave the Lobos the lead for good in a nonconference game at New Mexico.

Northridge (24-27) took a 3-1 lead in the third with a run-scoring double by Jason Gorman and a two-run double by Daryl Grant.

Mike Campbell had four hits for New Mexico (26-24-1), including a double and triple.

HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD

Cleveland 78, Chatsworth 47--Julian Linear won the 100 meters and long jump, and ran a leg on Cleveland's winning 400 relay team in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Cleveland.

The Cavaliers (5-2 in conference meets) clinched their third consecutive North Valley League title.
