Popular Pool Reopens After Being Rebuilt

May 04, 1999

WESTWOOD — After being closed for over a year because of an incident of electrical shock, the popular Westwood Pool reopened Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a demonstration by the Los Angeles Synchronized Swim Team.

The public pool, a favorite among hundreds of swimmers and aqua-aerobicists, was closed in December 1997 after swimmers felt shocks from electrical currents that surged through the water. No one was injured.

The pool was gutted and rebuilt, said Gilda Franklin, spokeswoman for the city Department of Recreation and Parks. Mini-lockers to store valuables and a new air circulation system were added.

"The pool looks great, we're very optimistic about it," said Kevin Davis, the aquatic facility manager.

The Westwood Pool is at 1350 Sepulveda Blvd. Hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
