* Find the Children, a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles that recovers missing children and prevents child abuse, needs volunteers to form a speakers bureau to teach children and their parents about safety and preventing abduction. Training is provided. Information: (310) 477-6721.

* Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge needs volunteers to garden and work in the teahouse, gift shop and at the Enchanted Railroad. Training is provided. Information: (818) 949-7978.

* Los Angeles County Public Library Foundation in Downey needs volunteers 10 to 15 hours a week to assist with phones, office projects, light typing and membership mailings for literacy programs. Information: John Bailey, (562) 940-8403.

* Franklin Canyon Park needs volunteers to help maintain the 605-acre park. The park, in Beverly Hills, is home to the William O. Douglas Outdoor Classroom, which hosts educational and recreational programs. Information: (310) 858-7272, Ext. 132.

* Palos Verdes Art Center needs volunteer docents for its main gallery from 1 to 4 p.m. daily. Docents greet the public, share information about the current exhibition, participate in art-related field trips and programs, and receive discounts on art history classes at the center.
