City Council members last week gave final approval to the design of seven commercial buildings in the fourth and final phase of their ambitious $130-million, 60-acre downtown redevelopment project. The retail center, which will include stores such as Tower Books and Records and clothing store Old Navy, will be between Brea Boulevard and Orange Avenue and should be open sometime next year, officials said.

The council is expected to vote May 18 on benches and street lights for the Birch Street Promenade and discuss establishing a downtown business association. The city expects to generate nearly $900,000 in annual tax revenue when all of downtown Brea is open for business, said Susan Georgino, director of the city's redevelopment agency.
