Condominium Associations to Pay for Brush Clearance

May 15, 1999|AGNES DIGGS

The Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to bill condominium associations, rather than individual owners, a single $13 brush-clearance inspection fee.

Friday's action cleared the way for the Fire Department to send another brush-clearance letter to all homeowners within three weeks, said Chief Jimmy Hill, Los Angeles fire marshal.

"The program remains pretty much the same as in past years, except for the fee for the inspection," Hill said.

The letter will address some of the most commonly asked questions, including how owners may inspect their own homes and avoid the clearance fee.

Homeowners who opt for inspecting their own properties must complete a form and submit photos to certify the required 200-foot clearance.

"We will be following up on the properties to make sure they're cleared," Hill said.
