Lancaster Rally Falls Short

May 23, 1999

A two-run rally in the ninth inning made it close but Lancaster never led and fell, 6-5, to the Bakersfield Blaze at the Hangar on Saturday night.

Greg Connors and Shawn McCorkle had home runs for the JetHawks (16-26), but pitchers for the Blaze (25-17) allowed only four other hits.

The JetHawks added catcher Scott Maynard, who was promoted from Wisconsin of the Class A Midwest League.

Left fielder Nate Dishington (Hoover) hit a two-run home run and knocked in three runs for Memphis (Cardinals). . . . Right fielder Brent Cookson (Santa Paula, Ventura College) hit his 11th home run for Albuquerque (Dodgers).

Double A--Harrisburg (Expos) first baseman Jon Tucker (Chatsworth) homered against Bowie (Orioles) right-hander Josh Towers (Hueneme, Oxnard College), who gave up 11 hits and five runs in a 7-1 loss. . . . A home run by center fielder Ryan Stromsborg (Notre Dame) was the only run Knoxville (Blue Jays) mustered in a 7-1 loss to Chattanooga.

Class A--Catcher Brian Luderer (Crespi) had two doubles and a single for Modesto (Athletics). . . . Catcher Jon Schaeffer (Harvard-Westlake) hit three doubles and drove in two runs for Quad City (Twins). . . . Tim Carr (Westlake) struck out five in three scoreless relief innings for Capital City (Mets).
