Wife Finds Spouse Dead in Backyard Pool

STUDIO CITY — An 83-year-old man with a history of heart trouble was found dead in a backyard swimming pool Thursday, though officials said the exact cause was unknown.

Paramedics pulled the unidentified victim from the pool in the 11800 block of Sunshine Terrace around 5:20 p.m., said Los Angeles city Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis.

"He was doing yardwork and fell in the pool," Collis said. "When his wife woke up from a nap, she went outside and found him in the pool."

Collis said the woman could not swim, but managed to pull her husband to the shallow end of the swimming pool. She attempted to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
