A plan to build 12 homes in order to save one was rejected Tuesday by the Planning Commission, which said the newer houses would hurt the integrity of the 72-year-old Gilbert Kraemer House.

Commissioners voted 4 to 2 against the plan, which called for 12 houses to be built on the 1.5-acre lot on which the dilapidated Gilbert Kraemer House stands.

The historic two-story house, built in 1918, once belonged to the grandson of Daniel Kraemer, one of the original European settlers of Placentia.

Lee planned to use revenue generated from the new homes to restore the structure. His architect said he plans to appeal the vote to the City Council.
