The City Council proclaimed April as Autism Awareness Month at its meeting Tuesday evening. Councilwoman Joy L. Neugebauer said the proclamation coincides with a national campaign to create more awareness of autism. The disease, a disability that usually appears in children before age 3, affects the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills.
