Board members of a Leisure World condominium association have to go back to the community after failing to get the support they needed to pass a set of amended rules.

The revised rules that govern the condominium community fell short of the required 51% approval of 6,100 potential voters, or 3,052 votes. About 3,200 residents sent back their ballots by the July 20 deadline. Of those, 68%--about 2,200--supported the amended bylaws and articles of incorporation.

Corkey Eley, one of the residents who campaigned against the proposed changes, said Third Laguna Hills Mutual board members didn't give residents a chance to discuss the proposed amendments.

One amendment would have given Third Mutual's management priority for 30 days, instead of 15, to buy a home up for sale in the community.
