The City Council will consider participating in an Orange County Sheriff's Department program to catch suspended and unlicensed drivers.

The Traffic Violator Apprehension Program, which is being proposed to all cities that contract with the Sheriff's Department, would set up checkpoints to catch violators.

The program would also establish fees to retrieve impounded cars.

Drivers with suspended licenses would have to pay an additional $152 to get their cars back, while drivers of cars impounded for other violations would be subject to a $50 fee.

This program has been approved by the San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point city councils in the last two weeks. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 100 Avenida Presidio.
