Adamson House in Malibu needs volunteers to guide tours, greet the public or work in the gift shop. A series of six Monday evening training sessions begins Sept. 11. Information: (310) 456-8432.

* Malibu Creek State Park offers docent training Sept. 23 for those interested in greeting the public at the visitor center and sharing park information. The nature and history of the Santa Monica Mountains will be covered in the classes. Information: John Abel, (310) 456-8384.

* Working Wardrobes for a New Start in Irvine, which provides life skills education and career development services to survivors of domestic violence and adults in life crises who are trying to achieve self-sufficiency, needs several office volunteers with computer knowledge who are creative and have phone and typing skills. * Sand Castles Grief Support Program for Children and Families, which serves the San Fernando Valley and other areas of the Los Angeles area, needs volunteers to provide support in a group setting to children 3 to 19 who have lost a parent, sibling or other close family member. Training is provided Saturday and Aug. 12. Information: (818) 990-8580.

* Volunteer Vital English in Pomona, which offers free English lessons to non-English-speaking adults, needs good used books for a book sale to be held Oct. 20-21. Children's books are especially needed. No magazines, texts or reference books are needed. Volunteers are needed to sort books and set up the sale Oct. 19 and to help on sale days. * Vista del Mar Child and Family Services in Los Angeles is offering a seminar Aug. 9 at 7:30 p.m. for those considering becoming foster or adoptive parents, and a workshop Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. for those considering adopting children from another country. * Carson Library Literacy Center offers a tutor training workshop Saturday and Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library. Information: (310) 835-3167.

* KOREH LA, the L.A. Jewish Coalition for Literacy program, needs volunteers to read to Los Angeles Unified School District children in grades one to three for an hour a week. Training is provided. Information: (323) 761-8153.
