THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION

Tuning out

August 02, 2000

Television gives average folks access to the political conventions, but a smaller proportion of people is tuning in. The big challenge for the convention is to get the attention of voters and hold it long enough to affect their attitudes, said Bruce Newman, political marketing expert at DePaul University in Chicago. "It will take a lot of hoopla and suspense," he said.
