Dana Point

Portions of Dana Point Harbor remained closed Monday after Saturday's 1,500-gallon sewage spill.

The I to O Docks on the north side of the east basin were closed to swimmers and divers, according to Larry Honeybourne of the Environmental Health Division of the Orange County Health Care Agency.

Honeybourne said the spill was caused by line blockage in the South Coast Water District's sewage collection system. Tree roots were to blame for the blockage, Honeybourne said.

Workers finished repairs to the affected sewer lines Saturday night. The area will remain closed to water-contact sports until tests meet acceptable standards, which could happen by the end of the week, Honeybourne said.
