RealtyTrac Launches Internet Site for Distressed Real Estate

August 08, 2000|BARBARA MURPHY

RealtyTrac.com in Westlake Village, an online foreclosure data service, has launched a site for distressed real estate on the Internet.

The site provides both consumers and professionals with the information they need to access, research, analyze and purchase distressed real estate. Subscribers have access to more than 800 counties in all 50 states.

The fee-based service will allow users to buy a day pass for $7.95 to try out the site.

RealtyTrac said it gathers and updates more than 600 new listings a day. There are 100,000 pre-foreclosure listings, 60,000 foreclosure sales and 45,000 bank- and government-owned properties online.

"For years this market has been hidden from the general public and the Realtors have never had a reliable source for the data," said Derek White, RealtyTrac co-founder and chief executive.

If consumers had access to that information, White said, more homeowners would be saved from foreclosure and more home buyers would save money.

In addition to the core data, the site provides subscribers with comparable sales figures, property profiles, property histories, demographic data and other information. RealtyTrac partners include Dataquick Information Systems in La Jolla, Homeseekers.com in Minden, Nev., and RealtyOnline, also of Westlake Village.
