An armed gang opened fire on police and soldiers in an apparent ambush outside Suva, Fiji's capital, killing two and injuring three others, radio reports said. A military spokesman was quoted as saying the troops and police had been investigating a report of shots fired from a vehicle at ethnic Indians in Naitasiri district. As the officers approached a parked vehicle, they were shot at from the nearby jungle, triggering a brief gun battle, the reports said. "Two have died, a policeman and an army officer," the spokesman told FM96 radio.
