August 09, 2000

LOS ANGELES — Attorney Lee Kanon Alpert and independent management consultant Mark Edward Schaffer were confirmed Tuesday as members of the Board of Airport Commissioners by the Los Angeles City Council.

The new members are joining an expanded seven-member board led by President John J. Agoglia, a veteran broadcaster and consultant; educator and housing developer Warren W. Valdry; architect Christopher C. Pak; and Miguel Contreras, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.

Alpert and Schaffer join architect Pak, who was confirmed by the City Council on July 14, as the newest members of the commission that oversees Los Angeles World Airports. Contreras was also reappointed to his position on July 14.

Alpert, formerly vice president of the Los Angeles Board of Building and Safety Commissioners, will serve on the airport board through June 30, 2001. Schaffer was appointed for a term ending June 30, 2004.

Los Angeles World Airports is a self-supporting department of the city of Los Angeles, which owns and operates Los Angeles International, Ontario International, Palmdale Regional and Van Nuys airports.
